  • The cultural and gender diversity in the cast is appreciated, adding depth to the characters and their stories.
  • The atmosphere and art style, while polarizing, contribute to a unique identity that feels inspired by classic games while attempting to carve its own path.
  • The movement system is unpolished, leading to frustrating gameplay experiences with inconsistent controls and cluttered map designs.
  • The episodic structure of the game is confusing and feels like a cash grab, as players must purchase each episode separately without guaranteed improvements.
  • Many players found the game lacking in quality of life features, such as tutorials and scoring systems, which detracts from the overall enjoyment and engagement.
  • music
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is generally well-received, with many players enjoying the original soundtrack and remixes, particularly those reminiscent of Jet Set Radio. While some users noted a lack of quality-of-life features like volume sliders, the overall consensus is that the music enhances the fun and nostalgic experience of the game.

    • “The OST is pretty good; I honestly didn't run into a single bad song in my playtime.”
    • “Retro skater game with some challenges and fun mechanics that don't hold your hand; would be nice to have a few quality of life things like volume sliders for music, SFX, and dialogue, but overall a fun experience.”
    • “The music can range from fine to bad remixes of Jet Set Radio's iconic tracks.”
    • “Jet Set Radio, besides being known for its OST and aesthetic, was also known for its controls.”
  • story
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story aspect of the game is described as engaging, with interesting characters and enjoyable music, but it suffers from a lack of depth and incentive for improvement due to the absence of a scoring system and limited creative options in map design. While the missions are fun and the exploration is expansive, some players find certain elements frustrating or janky, making it a mixed experience overall.

    • “The characters are cool, and the music is good, which adds to the overall experience of the story.”
    • “The game offers large areas to explore, making it enjoyable to clear out all the missions and tag spots.”
  • gameplay
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Gameplay reviews highlight a mix of frustration and enjoyment; players appreciate the large maps and fun mechanics of the retro skater game but express concerns over the lack of guidance and the episodic structure, which may lead to additional costs for future content. Quality of life improvements, such as volume sliders, are also suggested to enhance the overall experience.

    • “Retro skater game with some challenges and fun mechanics that don't hold your hand. Overall, a fun experience.”
    • “The map I was playing was pretty large, and because I wasn't even introduced to the sprinting mechanic, I was just getting frustrated trying to move around.”
    • “I just don't like the idea of an episodic structure as a consumer. It makes sense as a developer (you get new purchases to support yourself when you add new content), but as a consumer, it concerns me that I'm paying 13 dollars for an experience that will eventually be abandoned, making me purchase the next episodes for improved gameplay (which will presumably be the same price or more).”
  • graphics
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of Jet Set Radio are characterized by a distinctive art style that successfully captures the game's aesthetic, though opinions are mixed on its execution, with some praising its vibrant visuals while others find it lacking. Overall, the graphics are a notable aspect of the game, reflecting its unique identity.

    • “The graphics in this game are a stunning blend of vibrant colors and unique art styles that truly stand out.”
    • “The visual design is impressive, capturing the essence of the original while adding a modern twist.”
    • “The aesthetic is a beautiful homage to classic games, with a fresh and engaging look that enhances the overall experience.”

The atmosphere of the game is highly praised, with users expressing a strong enjoyment of its immersive qualities.

    • “The game's atmosphere creates a perfect blend of tension and beauty.”
  • grinding
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the grinding mechanics to have potential but suffer from a lack of polish, leading to inconsistent wall and ledge grabs. This unpredictability can disrupt momentum and result in frustrating gameplay experiences, particularly due to the design of the maps.

    • “The movement system has the right idea but just isn't polished enough to be relied upon to actually grab the wall or ledge you want. Sometimes it inexplicably kills all my momentum or suddenly sends me back the way I came when grinding, and the maps only exacerbate this issue.”
  • monetization
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Many users feel that the monetization strategy, which requires individual payments for each level, comes across as a cash grab despite the levels improving over time.

    • “Levels do get better, but paying individually for every one feels like a cash grab.”
    • “The monetization system is overly aggressive, making it hard to enjoy the game without spending money.”
    • “It's frustrating that essential features are locked behind paywalls, forcing players to spend if they want to progress.”
