While some noted that the graphics are a step down from "Unity," particularly in terms of detail and performance, others found them impressive for a game released in 2015, especially when played on high settings. • “This game is a massive graphical downgrade from Unity; I believe if this game had Unity’s graphics, it would look much better than any other game in the franchise so far.”

While some appreciate the ability to progress without being forced into grinding for story completion, others find the side missions and resource collection to be overly monotonous and lacking in innovation. Overall, players suggest that while grinding is present, its impact varies, with some finding it manageable and others deeming it a chore that detracts from enjoyment.

    • “You'll need a second life for grinding.”
    • “A lot of grinding.”
    • “A bit grindy sometimes.”
    • “I know, they are just side quests and there isn't really a reason to play all of them, but if you are trying to complete the full game, it gets kinda grindy and after one or two districts, it isn't just fun.”
    • “The game gets tedious very fast.”
    • “The side activities consist of you doing the same 4 missions over and over again in order to liberate the city, it's just tedious.”

    • “The overall world is great; I live in London and I feel they really nailed the atmosphere and aesthetic; however, in terms of gameplay, Syndicate really falls down.”
  • monetization61 mentions

The monetization aspect of the game has received significant criticism, primarily due to the presence of microtransactions that many players feel are intrusive and unnecessary in a single-player experience. While some argue that these microtransactions are optional and mostly worthless, others express frustration over being forced to engage with them for essential gameplay elements, such as collectibles and crafting materials, which were previously accessible through regular play. Overall, the monetization practices are viewed as a cash grab that detracts from the overall enjoyment of the game.

    • “Another plus is that, while they're still there (unfortunately), Ubisoft has greatly toned down the in-game microtransactions from Unity.”
    • “Microtransactions are still here, but they are optional and mostly worthless.”
    • “The microtransactions that are available are for lazy folk who don't want to spend time gathering resources in-game; you won't have any distinct advantage over people who keep their money.”
    • “The fact that there are microtransactions to buy a map in order to have collectibles marked is a terrible move by Ubisoft, especially since you could always get these with enough playtime alone.”
    • “It's just a cash grab, and I lose respect for companies that do it.”
    • “The game requires microtransactions for things that were given in previous games for free, and it runs terribly despite no noticeable change in graphics or gameplay.”
  • character development57 mentions

Character development in the Assassin's Creed series, particularly in "Syndicate," receives mixed reviews. While the sibling dynamics between Jacob and Evie Frye are praised for their chemistry and growth, many players feel that the overall character arcs lack depth and progression compared to earlier titles. Some appreciate the engaging interactions and humor, but others criticize the narrative for failing to provide substantial backstories or meaningful development for the protagonists and antagonists alike.

    • “The lead characters Jacob and Evie are diverse, and their constant differences and arguments contribute to strong character development in this game.”
    • “I dragged my way through it... only to appreciate some character development on the last mission...”
    • “There were numerous missed opportunities to improve his character development.”
    • “As much as Jacob and Evie are 'likeable' characters, there is simply no character development; the protagonists do not 'learn anything new' from their adventures, and their stories are rather abruptly ended.”

    • “Your main weapon is a cane-sword, which is a perfect marriage of aesthetics and deadliness; side activities like carriage racing, fight clubs, and gang wars create a unique blend of replayability.”
    • “Though, I will say the game has little to zero replayability.”
    • “This game has no replayability whatsoever, but an adventure to try out once.”
    • “Overall, this is a great game but my only problem with it is its little replay value.”
