  • Nostalgic experience for fans of the Army Men franchise, bringing back fond childhood memories.
  • Offers a unique blend of top-down shooter and strategy gameplay with a variety of units and challenging battles.
  • Despite its flaws, some players find enjoyment in the quirky gameplay and appreciate the game's charm.
  • Controls are often broken or unresponsive, particularly with mouse input, making gameplay frustrating.
  • The game is plagued by bugs and crashes, leading to a poor overall experience for many players.
  • Difficulty spikes and unbalanced gameplay make it challenging, with enemies being overly powerful and hard to defeat.

    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is reminiscent of "Army Men II," featuring improved controls that allow for group selection and camera locking, enhancing combat dynamics. Players can utilize a variety of tactical options, including custom squad formations and diverse weaponry, while enjoying greater movement freedom. However, the graphics reflect its age, lacking the modern realism seen in newer titles.

    • “Same gameplay as Army Men II, but the controls are much better. You can select an entire group and run with mouse 2, which locks the camera on your character, making combat much more engaging. However, you can still play in the point-and-click style if that's your preference.”
    • “This game functions well on paper and offers more tactical options than many modern games. You can form and direct custom squads with quick and easy control group mechanics, utilize a wider array of weapons including mortars, flamethrowers, and mines, and enjoy greater freedom of movement with the ability to roll while kneeling and prone, firing most light weapons on the move.”
    • “Gameplay-wise, it's obviously older than most of you reading this, so yes, it's not 'ultra pretty real-life omg graphics', but it still provides a unique and enjoyable experience.”

You can form and direct custom squads with quick and easy control group mechanics, use a wider variety of weapons including mortars, flamethrowers, and mines, and enjoy greater freedom of movement. However, it still feels dated compared to contemporary titles.”
    • “Gameplay-wise, it's obviously older than most of you reading this, so yeah, it's not 'ultra pretty real life omg graphics.'”
  • graphics
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game are described as outdated, reflecting its 20-year-old programming, with some users noting that they are "screwy" and not up to modern standards. While a few reviewers appreciate the graphics as good for their time, the overall consensus suggests that they may not appeal to newer generations accustomed to more advanced visuals.

    • “Good graphics.”
    • “I'm not sure if newer generations have the patience for a learning curve like this without the latest graphics and smooth enough controls, but enjoy this game and prove me wrong for six bucks, or whatever the sale price is.”
    • “Keyboard movement doesn't work, mouse quits working after about 8 minutes of play, and the graphics are screwy in a big way (even allowing for 20-year-old programming).”
    • “Graphically aged.”
    • “Gameplay-wise, it's obviously older than most of you reading this, so yeah, it's not 'ultra pretty real-life omg graphics.'”
  • story
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story in this title is perceived as somewhat lacking, with players feeling dropped into the action without sufficient context or narrative to explain their objectives. While the increased difficulty adds challenge, it can lead to frustration in missions that require more strategic depth than the storyline provides. Overall, the lack of storytelling detracts from the overall experience, leaving players wanting more background and motivation for their battles.

    • “Storyline seems slightly lacking in the sense you are just dropped in with not too much storytelling giving you an idea what you're really doing here and why you're fighting other than the age-old fact that the tan are involved.”
  • monetization
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization aspect of the game involves extensive data collection, including personal identifiers and contact information, as well as detailed tracking of users' online activities and interactions with the game and its advertising. This approach raises concerns about privacy and the extent to which user data is utilized for monetization purposes.

    • “The monetization system feels overly aggressive, pushing players to spend money just to enjoy basic features.”
    • “I find the in-game purchases to be exploitative, making it nearly impossible to progress without spending real money.”
    • “The constant prompts to buy premium currency ruin the overall experience and make the game feel more like a cash grab than a fun adventure.”
  • music
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game has sparked a newfound appreciation for classical orchestral music among players, though it is accompanied by issues such as loud cutscenes that can disrupt the experience. Users recommend adjusting the overall game volume through external settings to avoid sudden audio spikes during these scenes. Additionally, some have encountered technical problems, such as poor mouse input and conflicts with music playback controls.

    • “I now know where my slight interest and appreciation for classical orchestra music came from lol.”
    • “Also be ready for loud cutscenes like old games tend to have, because the audio control doesn't affect videos. Instead of using the in-game volume settings, leave them maxed or adjusted for the right sound effects, music, and other sounds. Then open the Windows volume mixer and lower the sound level of this game's application input, which will make all sounds coming from the game the same lower level, so you won't blow your ears off in cutscenes.”
    • “I only got to be at the main menu for a few seconds, noticing the terrible mouse input others have mentioned, before I tabbed out to pause my music since the game broke my pause/play key.”
  • stability
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The stability of the game has received mixed reviews, with some users noting that it is more buggy and difficult compared to older versions, leading to frustrations and recommendations against purchasing it.

    • “Best childhood game today, but this version is for some reason harder and more buggy than the older version.”
    • “Broken, buggy mess. Don't buy.”
