Aegis of Earth: Protonovus Assault
Aegis of Earth has one interesting idea and… that's about it. With its simple mechanics, okay story, and generally unimpressive presentation, it's okay for a portable game for quick bursts or killing time. However, those seeking more engaging tower defence titles best look elsewhere. This game has a place, but were it not on a portable console, would likely be in for an official reprimand. As-is, it fits in just well enough with the 'short spurt of play' ideology that makes it acceptable for a handheld title.

The gameplay is characterized by a unique tower defense (TD) style that emphasizes micromanagement without traditional building mechanics, offering an engaging experience despite some issues related to a poor PC port. Players appreciate the vibrant characters and a gentle learning curve, although some find the core gameplay can become repetitive over time. Overall, it is considered enjoyable for short sessions, particularly for fans of RPG and TD genres.
“Unique tower defense gameplay (as far as I know); you don't build, and let things play on their own. It has some micromanaging which is engaging.”
“I'm really glad I did as the characters are full of comedy and life, with the gameplay being great fun.”
“Fantastic blend of gameplay mechanics, wonderful cast of vibrant characters, gentle learning curve with a difficulty system that rewards you for challenging yourself.”
“Core gameplay gets tiresome after a while; the game world is a bit too confined, and frequently repeated events and voice clips quickly become annoying.”
“Gameplay-wise, let's just call it RPGTD.”
“Got this on sale; beyond that broken porting mess, it's solid gameplay with waifu in it.”
