About

Zombie Kill of the Week: Reborn is a single player and multiplayer survival shooter game. It was developed by Still Running and was released on March 13, 2015. It received positive reviews from players.

Zombie Kill of the Week: Reborn is a challenging, fast paced, 2D survival shooter! And when we say fast, we mean breakneck, flat-out, adrenaline fuelled fast! What’s different from the other shooters is your goal isn’t to run through levels and finish the game, but to survive for as long as possible under increasingly frantic conditions (we say as long as possible because ultimately you will die!)…

  • Fun and addictive fast-paced 2D zombie survival shooter with solid core gameplay and progression system.
  • Lots of weapon variety, upgrades, character customization, perks, and unlockables adding depth and replayability.
  • Supports multiplayer cooperative play, bots in singleplayer, and has a level editor with workshop support for custom maps.
  • Active developer with frequent updates and community engagement.
  • Nostalgic retro pixel art style and energetic soundtrack that fit the chaotic action well.
  • Gameplay can become repetitive and monotonous after extended play with limited map variety.
  • Bug issues such as shooting bugs, AI pathfinding problems, and server stability lag impacting multiplayer experience.
  • Multiplayer servers often empty or have connection issues, making it hard to find matches; online mode feels mostly dead.
  • Some UI and control design are unintuitive or clunky (e.g. 4:3 aspect ratio, default keybinds, chat system).
  • The voice acting is low quality and can be annoying or cringeworthy to some players.
  • gameplay
    55 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay centers on wave-based zombie survival with simple mechanics enhanced by deep customization, character leveling, and varied upgrade paths, creating an addictively fun and accessible experience, especially in multiplayer co-op. While some find the core loop repetitive and the crafting/balance mechanics underwhelming, the solid shooting, retro style, and progression systems offer satisfying gameplay that rewards persistence. Bugs and limited map variety slightly hinder long-term appeal, but overall, it delivers a compelling, pick-up-and-play shooter with notable replay value.

    • “The gameplay revolves around surviving for as many waves as possible, a familiar loop that thrives on rhythm and escalation.”
    • “It may be built on simple mechanics, but it offers impressive depth through customization and unlockables.”
    • “However, if you dig a little deeper you'll find a game that may not look so great but offers a surprising amount of depth when it comes to gameplay options, player, level and weapon customization, and strategic approach.”
    • “Convincing friends to play this co-op is almost impossible to imagine, as the gameplay and level design feel stretched thin after just a few minutes.”
    • “The shooting gameplay is reminiscent of older flash games from the mid-2000s, which falls well short of expectations and fails to ignite any spark of excitement.”
    • “Further, all the upgrade paths aside from damage are "traps"—they do nothing to make the gameplay any easier as range and accuracy do not come into play in the single-room screens.”
  • graphics
    39 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics are predominantly retro and pixelated, evoking a nostalgic, old-school arcade feel that is simple yet cohesive and fitting for the game’s style. While not cutting-edge or highly detailed, the visuals are functional, charming to fans of pixel art, and complement the gameplay and atmosphere well. Overall, the graphics are adequate and pleasing for those who prioritize gameplay and nostalgia over modern visuals.

    • “It features solid character progression, tons of weapons to unlock, enjoyable retro-style graphics, and punchy sound design that really sells the chaos.”
    • “The mechanics, sounds and graphics are all solid and create an atmosphere of satisfying, gory destruction.”
    • “But the simplicity combined with great soundtrack, pleasant graphics and gallons of blood gives you just awesome game.”
    • “The graphics are really poor and it reminded me of playing an old Commodore 64 game but on a really slow emulator.”
    • “Graphics/art style is terrible.”
    • “The graphics look pixely, the character is cheesy and it can be very easy later game.”
  • music
    29 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's music features energetic rock and electronic beats that complement its fast-paced action and intense atmosphere, with many players praising its engaging and immersive soundtrack. While some find the music occasionally repetitive or loud, overall it is regarded as a strong element that enhances gameplay, alongside fitting sound effects and a humorous narrator. The soundtrack is widely appreciated for contributing significantly to the game's excitement and memorable experience.

    • “The soundtrack keeps the adrenaline pumping with energetic rock and electronic beats that match the game’s fast pace, while the sound effects—satisfying gunfire, splattering gore, and guttural zombie moans—contribute to a grim but exciting atmosphere.”
    • “The background and music and the general ambiance melted perfectly together to keep you fully immersed in the game.”
    • “And the music is downright awesome - the 'boss loop' track is brilliantly cathartic - although you will want your volume control to hand, the game is very loud - which may or may not be a bad thing.”
    • “Music gets annoying after some time.”
    • “The VA is another reason why you shouldn't buy; if you get easily annoyed by some dull voice, you should either mute your sound and play your own music or just get used to it.”
    • “The music is decent, but overall unremarkable.”
  • humor
    17 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game features consistently funny character lines, humorous voice acting, and entertaining customization choices that add to its charm. Players appreciate the lighthearted, cheesy humor reminiscent of classic flash games, which enhances the overall fun experience, especially in multiplayer. Despite some technical issues, the humor remains a standout aspect, making the gameplay enjoyable and engaging.

    • “Also, the customization choices are pretty funny, having Rick (from Rick and Morty) and Heisenberg (from Breaking Bad) backing you up in a level is worthy of a few quid on its own!”
    • “This game is really a lot of fun and the voice work is hilariously cheesy, which I love. The game reminds me of some kind of Newgrounds flash game.”
    • “Lots of funny one-liners such as 'This is my boomstick!' ... where have we seen that line before ha!”
  • story
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game lacks a traditional story or campaign, focusing instead on survival and progression through leveling up and upgrades. While this simplicity aligns with its zombie shooter nature and provides enjoyable gameplay, the repetitive actions and absence of narrative depth may cause the experience to feel stale over time. Additionally, the inclusion of various references and cosmetic customization adds some charm despite the minimal story element.

    • “There’s no overarching story to uncover or campaign to complete—your reward is survival itself.”
    • “I can't say a lot about this game... it has zombies, guns, levels, plus you can upgrade your character when you level up, so dying doesn't reset your experience. It has no real story, but as a zombie shooter, the shooting is what sells it. All that considered, it's still very enjoyable.”
    • “While it’s fun at first, the lack of any story or campaign makes it feel repetitive over time—especially since custom maps don’t count toward your progression or achievements.”
    • “There's no overarching story to uncover or campaign to complete—your reward is survival itself.”
    • “While it's fun at first, the lack of any story or campaign makes it feel repetitive over time—especially since custom maps don't count toward your progression or achievements.”
    • “This may sound nitpicky, but in missions that can run over an hour, repeating the same two or three actions quickly becomes stale.”
  • stability
    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game offers enjoyable arcade gameplay but is marred by several bugs, including weapon glitches, freezing during map creation, and connectivity issues causing lag. While these stability problems can be frustrating, they generally do not overshadow the overall fun experience.

    • “Worth the $7, however the game is very buggy. In every round I played, at one point my left click would just not shoot and I couldn't do anything, although everything else worked.”
    • “While making a map, the game sometimes freezes.”
    • “The client's connection is always weak, bullets lag behind, and there are multiple glitches including issues with the zombie bear and the lupara shotgun.”
  • replayability
    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game offers strong replayability through its perk system, character customization, and leveling mechanics, complemented by fun weapons and unlockables. Additionally, Steam Workshop support allows for new levels, further extending replay value. However, some wish custom maps were better integrated into progression to enhance long-term engagement.

    • “The game’s perk system further enhances replayability, letting you tweak your survivor’s stats and loadouts to suit different playstyles.”
    • “+ hoards of replayability, even without multiplayer.”
    • “For even more replayability, there is Steam Workshop support so that you can download new levels to play.”
  • optimization
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Optimization of the game is somewhat mixed: it runs smoothly and stably on most modern systems due to low hardware demands, but it appears to be a straightforward mobile port with limited PC-specific optimizations, such as default low resolution and aspect ratio.

    • “In terms of technical performance, Zombie Kill of the Week – Reborn is remarkably stable.”
    • “It runs smoothly on virtually any modern system, reflecting its low hardware demands and optimized design.”
    • “Each weapon feels distinct in both performance and personality.”
    • “- Game is by default on 4:3 aspect ratio and a very low resolution, straight ported from mobile without any PC optimization.”
  • monetization
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's monetization avoids aggressive microtransactions, relying instead on in-game purchases or tokens to remove ads, which some players appreciate. However, ads and touch controls on the Android version detract from the experience for some users. Overall, the monetization is considered fair and balanced compared to other mobile games.

    • “No micro-transactions, just in-game purchases with in-game tokens.”
    • “It's not filled with microtransactions, it's fast paced, it's fun and it feels like a decent competitor against all the other games on the mobile market.”
    • “Played this on Android, I can't stand the touch controls and ads.”
    • “Although you can remove the ads by purchasing in-game items on the Android version, the touch controls are still unbearable.”
    • “I'd recommend the devs just make the game free to play and add in cheap microtransactions.”
  • grinding
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Grinding in the game strikes a balance between engaging and tedious, providing enough challenge to reward achievements without feeling overly repetitive. While some find the weapon/skill grind and currency collection demanding, especially in single-player, the experience becomes significantly more enjoyable and replayable with friends.

    • “You get what you pay for: teleporting zombies and a grindy weapon/skill system that normally keeps you engaged to get those achievements.”
    • “And that zombie coins are too hard to get, feels like a free Android game that needs so much grinding.”
    • “Simple, grindy zombie killer, exponentially more fun the more friends you play with.”
  • atmosphere
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's atmosphere is driven by a high-energy soundtrack and impactful sound effects that enhance the thrilling, fast-paced action. Combined with solid mechanics and graphics, it creates a satisfying and grimly immersive experience of gory destruction.

    • “The soundtrack keeps the adrenaline pumping with energetic rock and electronic beats that match the game’s fast pace, while the sound effects—satisfying gunfire, splattering gore, and guttural zombie moans—contribute to a grim but exciting atmosphere.”
    • “The mechanics, sounds, and graphics are all solid and create an atmosphere of satisfying, gory destruction.”
  • character development
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The character development is subtle yet engaging, effectively drawing players into the story and keeping them hooked.
