All eventualities considered it's a matter of refinement rather than revolution for PlayStation's best-loved worm-based series, with developer Team17 tinkering and toying to make Worms Battlegrounds the most definitive entry in the series to date.
"Worms Battlegrounds" is a turn-based artillery strategy game where players can compete in multiplayer or co-op matches with up to 2-player split screen, or play through the single-player storyline set in a world history museum, following the player's worms as they try to retrieve the concrete donkey's stone carrot from the evil Lord Crowley-Mesmer. Explosive weapons and destructible environments provide for tactical and competitive gameplay. The game was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The gameplay retains the classic chaotic and fun multiplayer experience of the Worms series, appealing to long-time fans with its familiar mechanics, exaggerated British humor, and quirky weaponry. However, newcomers may find the dated gameplay less compelling and question the franchise's longevity.
“Classic Worms gameplay debuts on new consoles; multiplayer is still chaotic and fun.”
“The dated gameplay, exaggerated British humor, and wacky weaponry mean that this will please fans looking for more of the same.”
“The dated gameplay, exaggerated British humor, and wacky weaponry mean that this will please if you’re looking for more of the same – but while fans will simply be satisfied to see the series slither onto the PS4, newcomers may ponder how the franchise has even made it this far.”

The good news is that fans can now play a new Worms game on their new consoles; the bad news is that Worms Battlegrounds does almost nothing to advance the series and so makes it hard to justify yet another Worms entry to begin with.
