"When Rivers Were Trails" is a 2D point-and-click adventure game that explores the impact of colonization on Indigenous communities in the 1890’s. As an Anishinaabeg forced to leave their traditional territory in Minnesota and travel west to California, players face challenges from Indian Agents, interact with members of different nations, and engage in activities like hunting, fishing, and canoeing to maintain their wellbeing. The game was developed in collaboration with the Indian Land Tenure Foundation and Michigan State University’s Games for Entertainment and Learning Lab.
