Stick it to The Man! Game Cover
I’m not sure what happened, but I can’t ignore these bugs. They leave what is otherwise a great game, just good on the Switch. If you missed this on the Wii U, don’t miss it again, but maybe wait until it gets a patch.

"Stick it to The Man!" is a quirky 2D adventure game where you, as hard-hat tester Ray, gain the ability to read minds and modify the world with stickers. After a strange accident, Ray must clear his name, fight against a conspiracy, and deal with bizarre characters in a darkly comic story. Use your wits, stickers, and imagination to navigate through the intricate puzzles and save the day.

  • humor187 mentions

The humor in the game is widely praised for its clever writing, quirky characters, and engaging dialogue, often drawing comparisons to the comedic style of Double Fine Productions. Players appreciate the mix of absurdity and charm, with many finding the humor consistently funny and entertaining throughout the gameplay. However, some critiques mention that not all jokes land effectively, and certain comedic elements can become repetitive, detracting from the overall experience.

    • “Hilarious genius, well crafted & dare I say tested puzzles and unique and fun gameplay.”
    • “The story is great, the puzzles are amazing, the humor is ten out of ten.”
    • “Stick it to the man is a quirky, hilariously fantastic puzzle platformer that draws inspiration from the comedic giants at Double Fine Productions.”
    • “Sure, there is some over-the-top stuff or moments that are so flat they just aren't funny, but for the most part, you will at least be amused by the game.”
    • “The humor often falls flat, relying on clichés and predictable jokes that fail to land.”
    • “While the game attempts to be funny, many of the jokes feel forced and lack originality.”
  • story121 mentions

The game's story is characterized as humorous, whimsical, and engaging, often featuring charming characters and a unique visual style. While some players find the narrative simple or lacking depth, many appreciate its lightheartedness and comedic elements, making it enjoyable for a short playthrough. Overall, the storytelling is seen as a strong point, complemented by well-executed dialogue and creative puzzles, though some critiques mention a lack of memorable moments or complexity.

    • “The story is humorous, weird, and actually pretty dark at times; but it tells its story without ever taking itself too seriously.”
    • “The writing, art design, voices, and the story itself have this charm that I for one consider a breath of fresh air in what is quickly becoming a stale industry full of grays and browns and scruffy guys with even scruffier voices (and guns, lots and lots of guns).”
    • “The world it is set in is unique and the story is interesting enough to make me want to complete the game and find resolution for the characters.”
    • “Without challenging gameplay, all we are left with is really just a well-drawn movie with a fairly basic story.”
    • “The result is a comedy puzzle game that fails to be funny and has no interesting puzzles, but does have a host of one-dimensional characters, terrible voice acting, and a nonsense plot.”
    • “The storyline was also pretty basic and almost as two-dimensional as the cardboard characters.”
  • graphics104 mentions

The graphics of the game are widely praised for their unique and imaginative art style, often described as a charming blend of paper and cardboard aesthetics reminiscent of classic titles like Psychonauts. Players appreciate the hand-drawn characters, vibrant visuals, and the way the art complements the gameplay and humor, creating an engaging and visually appealing experience. Overall, the graphics contribute significantly to the game's quirky charm and entertaining atmosphere.

    • “The art style is beautiful and I loved hearing what every character had to say; I even took about a hundred screenshots of the conversations because it was too good.”
    • “The art style and the whole psychic mind reading thing in general also reminds me of the cult classic Psychonauts, which is a good comparison in my book.”
    • “The world is depicted in a paper aesthetic that is expressive and quite charming using the conceit that almost everything is a movable sticker.”
    • “The art style can be a bit tough on the eyes at some points.”
    • “At first glance, the graphics can seem kiddy and unexciting, but they are just different and you end up loving them.”
    • “The visuals are unique, but they may not appeal to everyone.”
  • gameplay84 mentions

The gameplay is characterized by a unique blend of simple mechanics, including mind-reading and sticker manipulation, which enhances the puzzle-solving experience in a visually appealing paper-crafted world. While the game offers engaging humor and memorable characters, some players find the gameplay to be relatively straightforward and occasionally tedious, particularly during stealth sections. Overall, it provides a fun, albeit short, adventure that balances its quirky style with enjoyable, if not deeply challenging, gameplay.

    • “I love the art style, the gameplay, the puzzles, the soundtrack, and the story.”
    • “A somewhat short but very sweet puzzler with an original art style and concept, as well as snappy humor and satisfying gameplay.”
    • “The gameplay revolves around you aiding said NPCs by finding items they need in order to progress.”
    • “The gameplay itself isn't that great.”
    • “There are unavoidable stealth sections that are very tedious and awkward because of the clunky platformer mechanics.”
    • “Gameplay is very straight-forward and brings nothing new to the table.”
  • music53 mentions

The music in the game is widely praised for its diversity, catchiness, and ability to enhance the overall experience, with many reviewers highlighting the jazzy soundtrack and memorable theme song. While some ambient tracks may not stand out, the combination of fun melodies and fitting soundscapes contributes significantly to the game's quirky atmosphere. Overall, the music is considered a standout feature, complementing the unique art style and engaging gameplay.

    • “The music is both diverse and funny.”
    • “I like the paper graphics here; it’s so elegant and cheerful, the music is beautiful and spot on that it couldn’t get better actually.”
    • “The art is great, the music is phenomenal, and the voice acting is superb.”
    • “I've tried looking for the soundtrack on YouTube or let's plays on YouTube and I barely found anything.”
    • “- only one real song (trailer/title one), rest is ambient audio.”
    • “As for the title song, it fell flat for me when I listened to it on its own; however, as a theme/title screen song for the game, it fits in well.”
  • replayability11 mentions

Overall, the game has limited replayability, primarily due to its short playtime of around 4 to 6 hours and a lack of additional content or challenges after completion. While players may enjoy the fun puzzles and engaging story, the main incentive for replaying is to achieve 100% completion or to challenge oneself in specific gameplay aspects. Many reviewers suggest that the game is best enjoyed during a sale, given its brief duration and minimal replay value.

    • “The game is also really fun and replayable and has an interesting story.”
    • “The main drawback for me is short-term replayability.”
    • “You can fly through it in a few sessions, and aside from trying to get all the achievements, I feel like there's not much replayability to this game, which is a shame.”
    • “The game itself is pretty short, however, and there is not much replay value.”
    • “Although it has almost no replay value once you get all the achievements (maybe you can challenge yourself to be more stealthy in certain parts), it's very fun and the characters have their own charm.”
  • atmosphere7 mentions

The atmosphere of the game is a mixed bag; while some players appreciate the elegant paper graphics and beautiful music that create an engaging and cheerful environment, others criticize it for being static and lacking depth due to one-dimensional characters. Overall, the game's unique blend of humor and whimsical elements contributes to a distinctive, if sometimes inconsistent, atmosphere.

    • “The visual style, the atmosphere, the characters, the dialogues (ok, sometimes tacky, but not cringe), the music.”
    • “I like the paper graphics here, it’s so elegant and cheerful, the music is beautiful and spot on that it couldn’t get better actually, the puzzles are fun to solve, and the atmosphere will get you hooked in immediately.”
    • “Game has a very nice atmosphere.”
    • “Unfortunately, that's the game's only real source of inspiration and, paired with the frankly huge cast of one-dimensional characters, the atmosphere loses its charm faster than a leprechaun on speed.”
    • “Sub-par atmosphere (very static environments).”
    • “The atmosphere of total insanity in sauce of jokes about smoking man from X-Files, pirates, Peter Pan, Moby-D.”
  • character development6 mentions

The game features a distinctive "cardboard diorama" visual style complemented by puppet animation, resulting in unique and zany character designs that enhance the overall experience. Players praise the amazing character design, voice acting, and writing, noting that each character possesses a distinct personality, reminiscent of Double Fine's Psychonauts. Despite its brevity, the game offers a rich plot and engaging dialogue that contribute to its strong character development.

    • “Amazing character design, voice acting, writing, and just overall a great game; I recommend it fully.”
    • “The character design is amazing as every character looks unique with a different personality.”
    • “Though it's short, it has a lot to offer from the plot to the character designs and finally the dialogue.”
    • “The character development feels shallow and lacks depth, making it hard to connect with the characters.”
    • “I found the character arcs to be predictable and uninspired, leaving me wanting more complexity.”
    • “Despite the unique art style, the characters themselves feel one-dimensional and fail to evolve throughout the game.”
  • grinding5 mentions

Players find the grinding aspects of the game to be a mixed experience; while the sticker mechanic encourages experimentation, certain levels involve tedious backtracking and repetitive tasks, particularly during stealth sections and mind-reading segments. The clunky platforming mechanics further contribute to the frustration, making some gameplay moments feel unnecessarily drawn out.

    • “In the later levels, it gets pretty tedious because you basically have to stand in a particular location, place a sticker on a dude, and run for it.”
    • “If there's any other issue in regards to gameplay, I would say the segments with the henchmen get pretty tedious after a while and it's often annoying to be reading the mind of one, only to then have them walk out of the frame you can do so as they charge over to you, with a small delay between moments of getting in control again.”
    • “There are unavoidable stealth sections that are very tedious and awkward because of the clunky platformer mechanics.”
  • stability2 mentions

Overall, users report mixed experiences with stability; while some experienced occasional sound glitches, others reported a smooth experience with no issues or glitches.

    • “Occasional sound glitches.”
    • “The game frequently crashes, making it unplayable at times.”
    • “I experienced several bugs that disrupted my gameplay.”
  • optimization1 mentions
