NHL 25 is a good game when it focuses on hockey, it’s when microtransactions come into play that things become tacky.

NHL 25 fails to enhance what NHL 24 did well and instead seems to fall in line with a yearly update title. The added depth to Franchise Mode is welcomed, but no other modes were enhanced in any real way. The broadcast features of NHL 25 are obnoxious and not at all authentic, while the rest of the game does a tremendous job of doing the opposite. Squaring up with people on defense is another subtle change that enhances gameplay by a mile, similar to how passing was last year, and I just wish these minor additions could find a way to mesh together and expand quicker. The game needs to keep the slower pace, while finding ways to make specific players shine, because the strategic use of the entire ice is thrilling and extremely rewarding.
