    • “The meta progression is boring, the gameplay is boring.”

The game features charming pixel graphics that evoke nostalgia for classic titles like Space Invaders, with a retro aesthetic that appeals to fans of the genre. While some users note the graphics can be rudimentary and the art style somewhat inconsistent, the overall visuals are praised for their charm and effectiveness in enhancing gameplay. Additionally, the game does not support widescreen, which may be a consideration for some players.

The game is criticized for its excessive grinding, with players finding the meta progression tedious and the character options uninteresting. Many reviews highlight that the gameplay becomes a slog, particularly in the early levels, and that significant grinding is necessary to progress, which detracts from the overall enjoyment. Despite its discounted price, the lack of engaging content and frustrating mechanics make the grinding experience feel more like a chore than a rewarding challenge.

    • “The game has very grindy meta progression, and the characters are so uninteresting that I don't care what ship I'm playing, only the passives it provides.”
    • “Tedious, tedious slog.”
    • “Basically impossible to beat level 3 without grinding the shop upgrades like crazy, which is not fun to do when the game is extremely slow for the first 70% of any level.”
  • music14 mentions

The music in the game is generally well-received, described as nice and enjoyable, though somewhat inconsistent in style. Players appreciate the combination of the soundtrack with gameplay, creating an engaging atmosphere, while also noting the option to substitute it with personal playlists. Overall, the audio elements, including sound effects, contribute positively to the gaming experience.

    • “Music is nice, effects (both audio and visual) are nice, feedback is really nice.”
    • “Art style is cute enough, soundtrack is decently nice but style wise it's a bit all over the shop.”
    • “Does the music save it?”
    • “Still fun to listen to, though, and you can always put on a podcast or some of your own music.”
    • “With the proper weapon load and music track, you've got yourself your own little rave.”
  • optimization14 mentions

Overall, the game's optimization is mixed; while many players report minimal performance issues and smooth gameplay even on low-spec PCs, others experience stuttering during intense moments and performance degradation as the game progresses. • “No performance issues, both Xbox and DualSense controller work well.”
    • “Very little performance issues even on low spec PCs, very little slowdowns or hiccups creating a seamless experience.”
    • “Haven't had any performance issues, which is always a positive, especially these days.”
    • “- Optimizations are not great and can have stuttering when a large amount is going on (can be helped by turning off screen shake and damage numbers).”
    • “It has some performance problems as the game progresses.”
    • “I'm torn between recommending and not recommending, but I think I'll say no until some updates to performance.”
  • story14 mentions

The story aspect of the game is criticized for its lack of character development and narrative depth, with players expressing a desire for more engaging missions and a richer storyline. While the gameplay offers infinite waves post-mission, the absence of a compelling story detracts from the overall experience, leading to a lower rating than it could have achieved.

    • “8/10, would've been 10/10 if it had characters & story”
    • “This is almost entirely due to an obnoxious bug, and mission 6.”
    • “This is a frustrating way to take damage and die 65 minutes into a run on mission 6 (and this was with several power weapons).”
