  • GigaBash is a fantastic kaiju fighting game that captures the spirit of classic titles like Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters and War of the Monsters.
  • The game features a diverse roster of unique characters, each with their own abilities and playstyles, making combat engaging and fun.
  • The graphics and art style are vibrant and appealing, with destructible environments that enhance the chaotic gameplay experience.
  • The online multiplayer experience is lacking, with a small player base making it difficult to find matches.
  • The story mode is relatively short, with only a few characters receiving dedicated campaigns, leaving players wanting more content.
  • Some characters can feel overpowered, leading to balance issues that may frustrate players looking for a competitive experience.
  • story
    176 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story mode offers a brief but engaging look into the origins of a select few kaiju, with players expressing a desire for more extensive narratives for the remaining characters. While the storytelling is generally well-received, many reviewers note that the mode is short, lacking depth, and plagued by bugs that hinder the experience. Overall, the story is appreciated for its charm and art style, but there is a strong call for additional content to enhance the narrative experience.

    • “The story mode is pretty short but the game is supported by the devs and it's really nice to see new Godzilla monsters and new modes added.”
    • “The story mode was a lot more fun and engaging than I expected, with each of the four stories being cool in different ways.”
    • “Fans of kaiju will definitely love this, and honestly, I'd say the story mode is a nice touch especially for the panel artwork and just how well it's told!”
    • “The story mode only has campaigns for a few of the characters, and is extremely buggy.”
    • “I think I have encountered every possible bug; enemies stuck looping animations, enemies getting stuck at a certain health threshold and not being able to be killed, enemies being unable to deal damage to the player, falling through the world, getting knocked out of level bounds, and multiple straight up crashes, being unable to complete sub-missions, etc. I am not exaggerating when I say that there was not a single story mission where I did not experience at least one of these bugs.”
    • “The 4 single player campaigns are short, probably around 20 rounds in total, and it's all story-board.”
  • gameplay
    103 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Gigabash offers engaging and accessible gameplay reminiscent of classic kaiju brawlers like Godzilla: Save the Earth and War of the Monsters, featuring unique character abilities and a variety of mechanics that encourage both casual play and deeper mastery. While the game is visually stunning and fun to play, some players note limitations in single-player content and multiplayer activity, alongside a desire for more diverse movesets and sound effects. Overall, it is celebrated as a love letter to kaiju fans, providing a chaotic yet satisfying experience that captures the essence of monster battles.

    • “A love-letter to kaiju-brawler fans, very fun gameplay and a good handful of monsters to play as.”
    • “The gameplay is fluid and responsive; the animations are great and the graphics are very nice for that style of game.”
    • “Very fun monster fighting game with beautiful visuals and simple, yet skillful gameplay.”
    • “The multiplayer is entirely dead, the single-player content is quite limited, and with the core gameplay being extremely simple, it doesn't really feel like it's worth the $25 price tag, which is actually the $40 price tag if you're buying the two Godzilla DLCs.”
    • “Unfortunately, the gameplay is limited and the AI can be very cheap, such as clearly aiming only for the player when it is supposed to be a four-monster free-for-all.”
    • “While I love Gigabash, it feels like there's not enough story or gameplay content; the characters and controls feel amazing, but it simply cannot hold a candle to Godzilla Unleashed.”
  • graphics
    59 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics in the game are widely praised for their stunning visuals and unique art style, which effectively captures the essence of kaiju and monster aesthetics. Players appreciate the vibrant colors, detailed character designs, and the nostalgic feel reminiscent of classic kaiju films, although some note that certain DLC art styles clash with the main game's visuals. Overall, the graphics contribute significantly to the immersive and engaging experience, enhancing both the gameplay and storytelling elements.

    • “The graphics are appropriately cartoony, the music is neat, and the sound design is pretty good so far.”
    • “Very fun monster fighting game with beautiful visuals and simple, yet skillful gameplay.”
    • “The visuals are stunning, I greatly enjoy the music and sound design, and the gameplay is immediately fun while having enough nuance to reward players who spend more time with it.”
    • “Woolley is still a little too silly only because his art style appears to clash with the rest of the game, but Pipijuras, Thundatross, Skorak, and Rawa are really awesome, in my opinion.”
    • “I'll admit, the Godzilla DLC's art style is incredibly faithful to the era the characters are from, and as such, it clashes heavily with the game's main art style.”
    • “This can make it very confusing and hard to 'find yourself' if you get launched, and from a purely aesthetic choice, it makes you feel very small instead of a giant monster because the camera is zoomed so incredibly far away.”
  • music
    42 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game has received widespread acclaim for its energetic and catchy tracks, which blend nostalgic elements from classic kaiju films with a modern twist. Players appreciate the thematic sound design that enhances the gameplay experience, making it enjoyable both in and out of battle. Overall, the soundtrack is considered a standout feature, contributing significantly to the game's fun and immersive atmosphere.

    • “Rojak in particular is not only incredibly fun, but has the most entertaining sounds and music in the game.”
    • “The musical score is incredible, plenty of references to the Showa Godzilla era but is also really funky too.”
    • “Each monster rank only gives new skins, artwork, and background music; there are no actual gameplay improvements from it, so it doesn't become unfair like that.”
    • “When it comes to the music, all of the tracks are surprisingly catchy and stick in your head after playing.”
    • “They sound like music you’d hear in classic kaiju films but modernized and more playful.”

    • “"Gigabash" never takes itself too seriously, injecting a healthy dose of comic relief that will have you chuckling in between all the kaiju chaos.”
    • “The game had a good mix of humor and intriguing lore moments that kept me invested.”

The character development in this game is highly praised for its fantastic and original designs, featuring whimsical animations and a lighthearted tone that enhances the overall experience. Players appreciate the diverse character roster, including notable DLC additions like Godzilla and Ultraman, which contribute to the game's vibrant aesthetic and engaging combat mechanics. Overall, the character designs are considered a standout feature, adding depth and enjoyment to the gameplay.

    • “The whimsical animations, quirky character designs, and lighthearted tone make it a joy to play.”
    • “Great original character designs and DLC character packs including Godzilla and Ultraman.”
    • “Aside from that, it's a really good spiritual successor to the old Pipeworks Godzilla games with character designs straight from the Ultraman series.”
  • stability
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's stability is marred by numerous glitches, particularly in the story mode and online play, leading to frequent disconnections and bugs during gameplay. While the overall performance is solid with responsive controls and good visuals, the persistent issues detract from the overall experience, resulting in a mixed reception regarding stability.

    • “The game runs smoothly and looks fantastic; the controls are responsive and feel great.”
    • “I haven't experienced any crashes or bugs, which makes for a really enjoyable gaming experience.”
    • “The performance is consistent, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the gameplay without interruptions.”
    • “The story mode only has campaigns for a few of the characters and is extremely buggy.”
    • “Online is currently a little buggy, and I usually disconnect upon finishing a game, but that might just be my internet.”
    • “The campaign for me is a little buggy.”
  • emotional
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players express a strong sense of nostalgia and joy when engaging with the game, particularly recalling fond memories of classic Godzilla fighting games from their childhood. The emotional connection is heightened by the game's ability to evoke feelings of camaraderie and fun during multiplayer sessions, alongside a unique experience of embodying larger-than-life characters. Overall, the game successfully taps into feelings of exhilaration and warmth, making it a memorable experience.

    • “It has been a while, but this game has the ability to bring back that feeling of exhilarating and wholesome joy you had when you were just sitting about on a couch with your friends and cousins, or even your brothers or grandparents, and kicking each other's butts!”
    • “No game has ever made me feel more like a 300-foot-tall, radioactive super-lizard on a rampage.”
    • “Made me feel nostalgic for the old Godzilla fighting games from my childhood, especially with the Godzilla DLC.”
  • optimization
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, the game's optimization is praised for running smoothly on lower-end systems, but there are significant issues with online play, including frequent match desyncs and a lack of optimization for keyboard and mouse controls. While the single-player experience is well-optimized, the multiplayer aspect requires further improvements.

    • “The game is perfectly optimized and runs flawlessly on my potato.”
    • “The only reason I cannot recommend this game is because the online play is not optimized and match desyncs are way too common.”
    • “It needs optimization for keyboard and mouse play.”
    • “Quality & performance”
  • replayability
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Gigabash offers chaotic kaiju fun with various modes that enhance replayability, particularly in local multiplayer settings. However, some users feel that the lack of online support and content limits its long-term replay value, making it less appealing for solo play. Overall, while the game is enjoyable, its replayability may not justify the full price for all players.

    • “Gigabash is chaotic kaiju fun on top of some extra modes to keep things varied for hours of replayability.”
    • “It is extremely fun and has a lot of replay value!”
    • “The game is super fun for local play with friends but not too replayable outside of that.”
    • “I’m sure the devs are already hard at work on adding content and more online support, but as of now there just isn’t enough replayability or players to make the full-priced purchase worth it.”
  • atmosphere
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The atmosphere of the game is enhanced by optional visual filters that evoke the classic feel of Gojira/Godzilla movies, complemented by an enjoyable story mode featuring engaging cut scenes that effectively convey the tales of the Gigabash monsters. Players appreciate the nostalgic yet fresh arcade vibe, making it a standout in the kaiju genre.

    • “You can optionally enable visual filters on the game, giving it the atmosphere of classic Gojira/Godzilla movies.”
    • “While not being the deepest or most story-driven game, the story mode was enjoyable with good cutscenes and an overall good atmosphere for telling some of the Gigabash monsters' tales.”
    • “Personally, I like this game not just for the nostalgia of past games, but for being a new kaiju game that has a familiar play style and that classic fun arcade atmosphere that I've been waiting for, let's just say, decades.”
    • “The atmosphere feels flat and uninspired, lacking the tension and excitement that I expected.”
    • “Despite the option to enable visual filters, the overall ambiance still falls short of capturing the essence of classic monster movies.”
    • “The game fails to create a compelling atmosphere, making it hard to immerse myself in the experience.”
  • grinding
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find that grinding can lead to tedious gameplay, especially when lacking high-tier equipment like s-class and ultimates, as it often encourages passive play. Additionally, some users feel that extensive grinding may require significant time investment, likening it to needing a "second life" to fully engage with the game.

    • “Playing without S-class and ultimates can often reward players who play passively, which can make for tedious matches.”
    • “You'll need a second life for grinding.”
  • monetization
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Reviewers appreciate the absence of microtransactions, viewing it as a significant positive that enhances the overall value of the game for its price.
