The story has been widely criticized for being corny, poorly executed, and lacking coherence, with many reviewers noting its reliance on set pieces and drawn-out cutscenes that fail to engage players. The introduction of unlikable new characters detracts from the experience, and the overall narrative is described as nonsensical and uninteresting, leading to a disappointing gameplay experience. While some fans appreciate the nostalgic references to the Fast & Furious franchise, the consensus is that the story fails to deliver a compelling or enjoyable experience.

    • “It's a new story with 3 returning characters and a handful of new ones, each with personalities.”
    • “One of the best, if not the literal best, storylines I've experienced in a game this year.”
    • “If you're a Fast and Furious fan, the game is just littered with little throwbacks to past movies, cars like the Yanko Camaro, and past characters and locations being referenced in both the story and multiplayer mode.”
    • “The story is corny and ludicrous, and not in the way the movies are, which at least try to explain what's going on.”
    • “This may have been the greatest poorly executed story that I've ever seen.”
    • “Charging $79.99 for this pile of s&%t is absolutely criminal; once you beat the awful 5-hour story mode (100%), you’ll be pleased to find out no one plays the multiplayer (shocking), so after 5 hours you’ll have completed the experience.”
  • gameplay31 mentions

The gameplay is criticized for its inconsistent car physics, clunky controls, and a repetitive mission structure that detracts from the overall experience. Players find the driving mechanics frustrating, with many describing the game as lacking depth and offering a poor balance between story and action. Overall, the gameplay is seen as outdated and unpolished, making it difficult to recommend at full price.

    • “It's a fun arcade game, not bad at all. I know it's not Forza or Gran Turismo, but it's worth playing. The gameplay quality is great.”
    • “The gameplay is super hectic as the game will throw packs of Jaguar F-Types and Land Rover-type goon vehicles at you as you chase down your target. The roads are in such disarray that the easy and safer route is to be airborne the whole time, weaving through AI traffic.”
    • “The story is okay; it's not that good, but I can understand that Fast & Furious is no longer street racing focused. The gameplay is not overwhelming, but I got used to the handling as I progressed through the game.”
    • “I hope you can deal with inconsistent car physics for the entire game, because that's the gameplay loop: 'drive, fulfill mission objective while driving, put up with a cutscene, miss important exposition, repeat.'”
    • “Its design, physics, gameplay, controls, and basically everything when it comes to the interactivity between the player and the world are so archaic and buggy you'd think it was made by some fresh grad kids who were handed the license and told to churn something out ASAP to capitalize off Fast 9's upcoming release.”
    • “I play PC with a controller on most games and still it's really bad, the driving mechanics are horrible, the car jerks to one side extremely fast and hard and like you have no control, you crash most of the time and end up having to do a U-turn to go back.”

    • “The graphics are absolutely horrendous, the gameplay and narrative are ridiculous and sometimes difficult to follow but you'll be laughing your asses off the whole way.”
    • “The graphics are pretty much the same as Need for Speed from 2005, and the handling... oh boy, there is no speedometer, the cars just slide on the roads and nitros just blur the whole world and launch your car.”
    • “It is lacking in every department possible, from shallow and repetitive gameplay to abysmal visuals that belong on the previous generation of consoles.”
