The music aspect of the game has received mixed reviews, with players praising the quality of a few built-in songs while criticizing the limited selection, currently only around five tracks. Many users express frustration with hit detection issues and delays that disrupt gameplay, making it difficult to play in sync with the music. The ability to add custom songs is a highlight, but the lack of a robust community and tools for creating and sharing content limits the overall experience.
“If you try any of the 170 or so custom songs (at the time of writing), it's just fantastic and it does feel like sitting at an actual drumkit.”
“The base songs are varied and sound great, the track charting is well done and the ability to create your own custom songs is a great idea; I just wish there was more of a community to make more songs.”
“Overall this game is very fun and addicting and I can't recommend it enough to any kind of musical people!”
“The songs that come with the game aren't the best 'selection' and I wouldn't call them a selection really.”
“It looked cool but since you don't really hit the drum and since the virtual drum is transparent and badly designed, it just feels bad to hit the notes. What's worse is you don't actually affect the song with your drum hits; your hits and the song are two different things, and all that happens when you miss a note is the song lowers in volume until you get back on track.”
“I know for a fact I'm hitting the right drums at the right time, but it does not register the hit, so I can't even get past 30 seconds of a song. That kind of kills the mood. Don't get me wrong, this game has a lot of potential; hopefully, it gets better with time.”

Gameplay in "Drumbeats" is praised for its simplicity and addictive nature, reminiscent of classic rhythm games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. However, players have reported ongoing issues with latency and hit detection, which, despite some improvements, remain sensitive and detract from the overall experience. There is a hope that future updates will address these gameplay concerns more effectively than the current focus on graphics.
“Drumbeats has been one of my favorite games recently due to its simplicity and addictive gameplay that reminds me of the long forgotten era of Guitar Hero and Rock Band.”
“Great in theory, but initially there were some problems with hit detection - it has been improved but is still very sensitive from my gameplay.”
“Hopefully the latency issue will be fixed over time somehow, probably with better hardware, and the issues with gameplay will be fixed soon.”
“If the developers spent as much time on the actual gameplay and how the drums actually work as they do on the 'graphics' and 'detail', it might actually be fun and functional.”
“Great in theory, but initially there were some problems with hit detection - it has been improved but is still very sensitive based on my gameplay.”
“I heard a lot of things from real drummers as I posted gameplay in groups, and they said this game isn't the best.”

Additionally, the inability to rotate the view and cumbersome drum height adjustments further diminish the visual appeal.
“The graphics are basic and kind of bland, lacking any real visual appeal.”
“The art style feels uninspired and fails to engage the player.”
“There is no ability to rotate the view in-game, which limits the overall experience.”

The game suffers from significant optimization issues, leading to poor performance and lag, which detracts from the overall enjoyment. Players find it difficult to engage with the game due to these technical shortcomings, particularly on default maps.
“I recommend this game because I like the concept, but it's hard to play and it's badly optimized. If you miss, it's basically over and starts lagging significantly.”
“I can't have any fun in this with the default maps and with how it performs.”
