Bulletstorm is perhaps the best first person shooter game I have played in recent years. It not only revolutionizes the genre but sets the “fun” benchmark way too high for future shooters.
"Bulletstorm" is a comedic first-person shooter game with both single-player and multi-player modes. Players take on the role of Grayson Hunt, a member of the futuristic mercenary group Dead Echo, as he seeks revenge on his treacherous commander. The game's signature "kill with skill" gameplay rewards creative and chaotic combat moves, leading to a unique and satisfying action experience. The game is set in a abandoned paradise filled with mutants and flesh eating gangs which players have to fight through to reach their objectives.

- There are technical issues such as frame rate drops and texture pop-in that detract from the overall experience.

The story has received mixed reviews, with some praising its engaging plot, sharp writing, and excellent voice work, while others criticize it as weak, generic, and filled with crude humor. Many players appreciate the fun and action-packed nature of the narrative, though they note it lacks depth and subtlety. Overall, the gameplay is often highlighted as the main draw, overshadowing the story's shortcomings.
“Furthermore, the story is really engaging -- the plot and writing are sharp, the voice work is excellent, and it's just a ton of fun.”
“I am hoping they make this a series, they left the story open for more games.”
“The score system will keep you enthralled for hours and the story is hard-hitting yet comical.”
“Story is kinda weak.”
“Terrible story and writing, lame characters; the actual gameplay isn't bad, but there are worse shooters. You can find shooters way better than this one.”
“[Single player story goes nowhere, overuse of nonsensical dialogues, campaign is short, no single player co-op.]”

The humor in the game is characterized by crude jokes, creative swearing, and over-the-top macho dialogue, appealing to fans of irreverent comedy. Players appreciate the hilarious tactics used in gameplay and the meta-humor delivered through Duke Nukem's character, making it a fun experience despite its lack of depth in storytelling. Overall, the humor is described as stupid yet entertaining, enhancing the game's appeal for those who enjoy this style.
“It's full of crude humor and lots of creative swearing.”
“Its humorous tactics at killing enemies and earning points are the reason why I wanted to purchase this game again for the 8th generation console.”
“Duke Nukem's model only shows up during cutscenes where there are revised lines for him having some meta-humor by breaking the fourth wall, which is a nice touch.”

The gameplay is widely praised for its near-perfect execution, offering a rewarding and frenetic experience through beautifully connected levels filled with engaging combat and creative weaponry. While some critiques mention a lack of depth in the story and certain DLCs, the core gameplay remains a highlight, characterized by its fun mechanics and over-the-top moments. Overall, players appreciate the balance of challenge and enjoyment, making it a standout feature of the game.
“This gave me what I didn’t get from playing Doom Eternal and Halo 5 earlier this year - just near-perfect gameplay, incredibly rewarding and not too hard (even on hard mode); an adventure through a beautiful world of connected levels to fight and advance through; over-the-top set piece moments; a fun story.”
“[Genuinely evolved FPS gameplay, immense freedom and creativity of play, secondary modes add depth and give it real legs.]”
“You can technically get it for free for pre-ordering, but in order for that to happen, you'd have to be a time traveler... the DLC has its faults; it's basically a skin of Duke Nukem with no new gameplay or story additions except for some dialogue changes.”
“The gameplay is where it's at, as the plot is very generic with random explosions and outbursts like a Michael Bay film, but not that high budget.”
“The gameplay is frenetic -- it never lets up.”

The graphics of the game have received mixed reviews; while they are considered satisfactory for its age and feature some updates, they lack the polish seen in other remasters. Players appreciate the improved visuals, but some feel that the enhancements are not significant enough to justify the cost, especially when compared to other titles. Overall, the graphics are seen as a positive aspect, albeit with room for improvement.
“The graphics look fine given the age of the game, and I doubt they would look better on PC in 4K.”
“Not only are the graphics updated, but there are more perks for playing it over again.”
“The game is pretty much just like the first one with some cool upgrades and some awesome visuals.”
“No new features have been added to this game besides its updated graphics.”
“The upgrades are not as polished as other remasters I have owned in the past, and the main selling factor is playing Duke Nukem, but that is hidden behind a $5 DLC: Duke Nukem’s Bulletstorm Tour graphics, not much of an upgrade.”
“The graphics look fine given the age of the game, but I doubt they would look better on PC in 4K.”

Reviewers note that while the game runs on PS4, there are missed opportunities for optimization, especially considering the PS4's significantly higher RAM compared to the PS3.
“Even so, they could have optimized it, considering the RAM in the PS4 is significantly higher than in the PS3.”
