Asterix & Obelix Slap Them All!

Overall Asterix and Obelix Slap them all is at its core a 90’s beat 'em up and with that comes the usual trappings of the genre for better or worse. Though not as difficult as some of its fellow games in the genre the 50 levels of the game certainly make it a slog to get through. This can very much be someone's first game of the genre as it is easy and intuitive enough for players of all skill levels.

However, many players find the combat mechanics basic and repetitive, leading to a lack of engagement over time, despite the game's decent campaign length and smooth controls. • “If you developers were lack of ideas and just need to prolong gameplay hours, this is the worst idea you made.”
    • “Bad combat mechanics and overall bad game design.”
    • “The campaign longevity is decent enough, but there are many recycled assets, stages, and enemies (Romans, gladiators, pirates, and bandits) which, paired with the simple combat, ruin the fun and make the gameplay extremely repetitive.”
  • story
    11 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story is largely criticized for being repetitive and lacking depth, with many reviewers noting that it feels like a collection of basic Asterix and Obelix comic plots rather than a cohesive narrative. While the visuals and music receive praise, the storytelling is described as tedious and unengaging, with static cut-scenes that fail to enhance the gameplay experience. Overall, the story is seen as a forgettable filler that does not effectively advance the game.

    • “Absolutely lovely graphics, very faithful to the comics in its style and how it follows some of the storylines.”
    • “We also have everything a good story needs to have about the two Gallic heroes: wild boars, pirates time and again, bandits, prison breakouts, lions, and of course... Romans without end.”
    • “The story and static cut-scenes are a huge 'nothing'.”
    • “That's not a story; that's just a descriptive filler that serves no purpose.”
    • “The storytelling is horrible, with the actual levels doing nothing to advance the story, which is a dumbed down version of the comics, and appear as cutscenes, to make the game even more tedious.”
  • music
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is generally well-received, with many praising its energetic and catchy quality that complements the comic aesthetic. However, some players find it forgettable or repetitive, particularly in the context of character voices, leading to mixed opinions overall. • “The backgrounds, sprites, animations, even the text and music... it's all top quality and makes you really feel like you're playing a scene straight out of the comics.”
    • “Great animation, great music and perfectly captures the Asterix aesthetic.”
    • “The music is energetic and uplifting and very catchy!”
