    215 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of this platform fighter is characterized by its fast-paced, aggressive mechanics and a unique dash cancel system that allows for creative combos, making it accessible yet deep for players. However, many users report issues with clunky movement, inconsistent mechanics, and a lack of defensive options, which can lead to frustrating experiences, especially in online matches. Overall, while the core gameplay is enjoyable and offers potential for skill development, it suffers from bugs and a limited character roster, leaving some players wanting more content and polish.

    • “The dash cancel mechanic really opens the whole game to a new experience that makes a lot of combos feel free-flowing and not just bread and butter.”
    • “Very fun platform fighter, only 3 characters (with more on the way) and stages, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. The airdash gives you a ton of freedom with combos, and they feel very satisfying to hit.”
    • “The gameplay feels completely different from your average platform fighter, being able to make insane combos by constantly airdash cancelling moves, and the burst option allows you to break combos and/or momentum, allowing for insane comebacks.”
    • “The gameplay feels clunky, and despite it looking cool, the movesets are really basic.”
    • “The design is obtuse in every sense of the word, from the UI to the fighting mechanics; this game is just not good.”
    • “Unfortunately, the combo mechanic is yet to click for me, despite spending the majority of my time in practice, and I can't help but feel that something is missing, whether that is a grounded dash or the fact that certain moves just feel under/overpowered.”

    • “>menu music that loops for one minute instead of 30 seconds (not exactly a pro)”
    • “I love the art style and music, but patches and updates will be needed to make this game worth it.”
    • “Stuhl special 7: getting mad when singing to white girl music”

Many reviews highlight the comedic aspects of character abilities and the chaotic physics, which contribute to a lighthearted experience. Overall, while the game has its bugs and balance problems, the humor remains a strong point that keeps players engaged and entertained.

    • “I love seeing the reviews from all the smash players complaining about how unapologetically unique and broke this game is, it's hilarious.”
    • “Funny eureka upair chain attack into kill, funny game.”
    • “And the movement is a bit clunky at the moment, it feels like it doesn't read dashing back very well, so when I'm dashdancing my character will end up moonwalking in place which is funny.”
  • stability
    20 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's stability is currently a significant issue, with numerous reports of bugs, lag, and connectivity problems that hinder gameplay, especially in online modes. Players have experienced game-breaking freezes, unresponsive controls, and poor netcode, making it difficult to enjoy multiplayer features. While some users acknowledge the fun aspects of the game, they recommend waiting for fixes before diving in fully.

    • “Runs great, plays great, looks great, sounds great.”
    • “Really fun, but it's so buggy in its current state it's not even funny.”
    • “We're talking slideshow FPS, constant stuttering, game-breaking freezes, and lag that makes it literally unplayable.”
    • “Netcode sucks, online constantly freezes and the controller support is horrible; it doesn't work with the D-pad, so no leverless. I wouldn't recommend until the clunkiness and bad netcode are fixed.”
  • replayability
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, the game is praised for its high replayability, offering enjoyable experiences with friends and a complex gameplay that encourages multiple playthroughs. Many users express hope for future modding possibilities, which could further increase the game's longevity.

    • “The game feels shallow and lacks depth, making it hard to find reasons to replay it.”
    • “After completing the game, I found little incentive to go back and play again; the experience felt too linear.”
    • “While the initial playthrough was enjoyable, there isn't enough variety to keep me coming back for more.”
  • optimization
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The optimization of the game is highly inconsistent, with some players praising its smooth controls and solid performance, while others report severe issues like low frame rates, stuttering, and game-breaking freezes. Overall, it appears to be a fun experience hampered by significant optimization problems.

    • “The controls are smooth, the performance is good, and the characters are all fun and distinct; if you want a no-frills, no-nonsense platform fighter, this is the game for you.”
    • “It punches far above its weight class with smooth controls, snappy online, and a rock-bottom performance requirement.”
    • “Performance is terrible; this is the main culprit.”
    • “We're talking slideshow FPS, constant stuttering, game-breaking freezes, and lag that makes it literally unplayable.”
    • “Fun game, but it seems to be poorly optimized.”
  • story
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story aspect of the game is criticized for lacking depth and coherence, with reviewers feeling that the developers lost their original vision. While the game is praised for its gameplay and potential as a party fighter, there is a notable absence of a compelling single-player narrative or story mode, which some players feel detracts from the overall experience.

    • “Feels like a good game and a great concept that just got saddled with devs that lost the plot immediately and never found it.”
    • “Real platform fighter heads remember this was the concept of Rushdown Revolution, a truly tragic story of a game.”
    • “I would give it a 9/10 only because I wish there was some form of proper single-player content like a story mode (which is not required) and proper tutorials (which are required).”
  • emotional
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players express a mix of frustration and admiration regarding the emotional impact of the game. While some mechanics, like recovery and aerials, can lead to feelings of frustration and emotional damage, others find the overall experience deeply engaging and transformative, often comparing it favorably to other beloved titles. The emotional resonance of the game is highlighted by its ability to evoke strong feelings, both positive and negative, in players.

    • “I am a Smash Bros Ultimate player, and after touching this game once, I almost quit Ultimate for this absolute masterpiece.”
    • “Will trigger emotional damage as well.”

  • monetization
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization of the game is perceived as a cash grab, with players noting inconsistencies in gameplay mechanics that detract from the experience. Additionally, the developers appear to be prioritizing profit over quality, as evidenced by the announcement of a similar upcoming title.

    • “It has already become clear this game was a cash grab.”
    • “On a side note: this game may be a quick cash grab because they are coming out with a new game just like this if you look on their page.”
  • grinding
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The grinding aspect of the game is criticized for being tedious and unfulfilling, with players feeling compelled to invest significant time to master a flawed combat system and deal with severe balancing issues. Many reviewers express frustration over the limited character roster and the dominance of a single overpowered character, leading to repetitive gameplay and a lack of engaging online matches. Overall, the grind is seen as a frustrating experience that may only appeal to a small, dedicated player base, while the majority are likely to abandon the game quickly.

    • “This game mixes two of the worst fan bases in gaming and creates something that falls short of being good at either. Horrid balancing issues and a completely dead online scene make it fun with friends for about 5 rounds, but then you notice that the bow character is brain-dead easy and incredibly broken. With only a 3-character roster, if one person picks the broken camper, they either get jumped or win if everyone isn't focused on them. The round consists of a combo that takes 5 seconds to learn and does around 24%. It wouldn't be worth it to learn a mediocre combo system in a game that feels dead in a month. This amount of obvious character favoritism combined with horrible balancing, an incredibly small and boring roster, and clunky gameplay makes for the most mediocre fighting game I've ever played. You either grind this mid fighting game to get good and play online against the same few people or you have a life and forget about it within a week.”
    • “The grinding in this game is tedious and feels like a chore rather than an enjoyable experience. The mechanics are poorly thought out, leading to a situation where only a small percentage of players can truly excel, while the rest are left frustrated and disengaged.”
    • “If the developers could make the game less tedious in execution and improve workshop support, it could potentially reach its peak. As it stands, the grinding aspect is a major turn-off for many players.”
  • character development
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Character development is noted for its simple yet effective design, featuring interesting gimmicks that enhance gameplay. Additionally, the online component adds depth to character interactions, making the overall experience more engaging.

    • “The character design is simple yet effective, with interesting gimmicks that enhance gameplay.”
    • “The online features complement the character development, making each character feel unique and engaging.”
    • “I love how the characters evolve throughout the game, providing a deep and immersive experience.”
  • atmosphere
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's atmosphere is characterized by a calm and focused presentation, making it ideal for both short play sessions and extended periods of thoughtful problem-solving.

    • “The overall presentation creates an atmosphere that is calm and focused, making the game well-suited for short play sessions or longer stretches of thoughtful problem-solving.”
